Step Outside is a local-first mobile app designed to help people take short walks, build a gentle consistency practice, and use time outside as a daily reset.

What we collect

Walk and app usage data

Step Outside stores walk session information on your device so the app can show your completed walks, streaks, Golden Hour bonuses, Daily Spark preferences, saved route suggestions, and post-walk reflections.

This may include:

• walk start and end times
• walk duration
• distance
• sunrise or sunset bonus flags
• local streak and summary data
• reflection text you choose to save

Location data

If you allow location access, Step Outside may use your device location:

• while you are actively tracking a walk, to estimate distance
• when you ask for nearby route suggestions
• when the app calculates local sunrise and sunset timing for Golden Hour reminders and bonuses

Step Outside does not use background location tracking for the core app experience.

Notification preferences

If you enable notifications, the app may store your reminder preferences locally, including:

• sunrise quote reminders
• sunset reminders
• streak-save reminders
• quiet hours

Purchases

If you purchase Step Outside Pro, Apple handles payment processing. Step Outside and RevenueCat may receive purchase status information needed to unlock and restore your subscription or lifetime access.

We do not receive your full payment card information.

How your data is used

• save your walks and streaks
• recover an active walk if the app closes mid-session
• show Daily Spark and Golden Hour insights
• support post-walk reflection
• suggest nearby reset routes
• schedule optional local reminders
• unlock and restore Pro access

Local-first storage

Core app functionality works without an account. Most user data is stored locally on your device through on-device storage.

Some app infrastructure may use Firebase and RevenueCat, but Step Outside does not currently require account creation to use its core walk, streak, reflection, and reminder features.

If Firebase-backed reflection syncing is available in a future version, this policy should be updated to reflect that clearly.

Third-party services

Step Outside may use third-party services such as:

• Firebase, for app infrastructure and optional backend services
• RevenueCat, for subscription and purchase management
• Apple, for in-app purchases
• Open-Meteo, for sunrise and sunset timing

These services operate under their own privacy policies.

Data sharing

We do not sell your personal data.

We may share limited technical or purchase-related data with service providers only as needed to operate the app, such as restoring Pro access, loading route catalog content, or calculating local sunrise and sunset timing.

Your choices

• deny location access
• deny notification access
• disable reminders in app settings
• skip post-walk reflections
• use the app without creating an account

If you remove the app, locally stored data on that device may be removed as part of uninstalling the app.

Children

Step Outside is not directed to children under 13.

Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the date at the top of this page.
